Rate of Pay
Our drivers are paid weekly and at a rate of 25% of truck line haul.
A reasonable expectation on an annual basis is between $40k and $60k gross.
Area of Work
The majority of our freight is within the Southeast. We do stretch further out if the rates are there and the load is profitable. As of 2008 we are running in the following states:
- Florida - 54%
- Georgia - 16%
- Alabama - 3%
- South Carolina - 6%
- North Carolina - 3%
- All Other - 18%
Benefits
We offer a full benefit package including 401K, health insurance, dental, vision, life, and disability. We pay 50% of the employee only health insurance premium and all benefits are available upon completion of your 90 day probation period.
Type of Work
The work is of course mostly driving, but there is other work involved. You are required to secure loads with chains, binders, and straps as needed. You will also tarp loads on occasion. Both of these can be physically demanding. There will be times when you will need to drive machinery onto or off of our trailers. There will also be times when you may pull a flatbed instead of a specialized trailer.
Home Time
Typically our drivers are away from home, or out overnight an average of 5 to 10 days at a time and 2 weekends per month. These are averages, there could be times when you are out the entire week or 2 to 3 weekends per month. There could also be times when you are home every night and every weekend. We do not keep drivers out for 2 and 3 weeks at a time. We make every effort to get you home on the weekends, we make no promise or guarantee of home time. Home time is solely dictated by freight volumes and customer demand.
Equipment
We currently run 30 company owned trucks and 40 trailers. The trucks range in brand from Peterbilts, Macks, Kenworth, and Western Star. The average age of the trucks is approximately 4 years. Some are new, some are older. Our trailers are comprised of Landolls, Fontaine, and Dorsey. They range from RGN's to sliding axle stepdecks, to flatbeds. Average age of our trailers is 5 to 7 years. You will be assigned a truck and trailer and are allowed to take them home provided you have adequate parking.
Semi Annual Bonus
All drivers are eligible for a $500 bonus every 6 months based on their date of hire. The amount awarded for the bonuses is determined by the driver's activity during the previous 6 months. Items that would reduce the bonus amount are things such as chargeable accidents, chargeable cargo claims, DOT out of service violations, speeding tickets, excessive idling, etc. As these items occur that affect your bonus, you will be notified via a corrective action form placed in your mailbox. This lets you know that an event occurred that has affected your bonus.
